APRIL FAVORITES

May is here?! This is insanity to me. With finding out just a week before we were due to move out that we had a new place to move in to, I feel as if I’ve been running around this month like a chicken with my head cut off preparing for the move.

However busy things get, there is of course always time to indulge in some new items, and I am here to share some of my favorites with you! I’ve got a little bit of everything: beauty, entertainment, travel, style and of course, dessert!


Beauty

Shu Uemera eyelash curler

I’ve known about this curler for a long time, but was somewhat attached to the one I’ve had forever. When my tried, but true one broke a few weeks ago, I knew it was finally time for me to try out Shu Uemera‘s. And it did not disappoint. I love anything that makes my lashes stand out, and this curler is the perfect prep for luscious lashes.

Algenist Repairing Tint & Radiance Moisturizer

With the discovery of the Drunk Elephant Pekee bar from my March Favorites, I was motivated to find a new moisturizer (more on that in a future post) and a new foundation. I was so unhappy with my current skincare/foundation and decided to wipe the slate clean and start anew with all of them. 

In my hunt for a new foundation, I tried many. They ranged greatly in consistency, coverage, price, ingredients, and unfortunately, colors. A month in, I can say I have, for the first time, found a foundation that I like and that my skin likes. Algenist’s formula is lightweight and doesn’t have super heavy coverage, but that is something I like. I have definitely had my days of caked on makeup and the feeling is terrible. In fact, Algenist sells this as a tinted moisturizer rather than a foundation. With this on, my face feels light and like it can breathe. And to top that off, it has SPF 30 which is an absolute must

My only complain about Algenist is the color range. Unfortunately they only have 4 options, and there is no way that all of our skin colors can be pared down to 4 options. I am hoping they will work on expanding the options down the road.

Entertainment

Narcos on Netflix

I don’t watch many shows, (side note: we just got a television for our new place – something I have not had since I lived with my parents!) but the few I do watch seem to have all ended at the same time. Honestly, out of boredom-induced desperation, I decided to give Narcos a try. And I was surprised at how quickly I zoomed through it. I love the intertwining of actual historical footage with the fictionalized story of Pablo Escobar. I appreciated how raw and unforgiving it is. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to my mother, but to those who don’t mind all the things involved in ruthless drug trafficking, I highly recommend it.

Travel

I have no idea why I did not visit here when we were living in Lisbon, but I guess I have (yet another) reason to return to the beautiful country of Portugal: the Algarve.

Style – Item of Lust

My busy month has kept me from doing much shopping, but I have been internet stalking these Loeffler Randall shoes that I cannot stop oogling over. Honestly, there are about 50 pairs of their shoes that I wouldn’t mind having . . .

Dessert

I have found myself making these far too often, and consuming them far too quickly. They are such simple little sugar treats and with only three ingredients make for the perfect anytime pick-me-up (yes, even early mornings). However, they do not score high in the appearance department, so I’ll leave a picture out on this one.

Chocolate Coconut Almond Clusters
1.5 ( + or – ) cups shredded coconut
4 oz ( + or – ) chocolate chips
4 drops ( + or – ) almond extract
 chocolate chips
1. toast the coconut in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, or until golden in color, let cool completely
2. melt the chocolate chips
3. mix cooled coconut, melted chocolate chips, and almond extract in a bowl
4. form into blobs and refrigerate
