When in doubt, order a gin & tonic to wash down the jamon. Along with ham obsessions, Spain also has a thing for gin & tonics. That is an addiction I can jive with.

Bun v. building rivalry.

Parque del Retiro sunset. Such an incredible and massive park. Although only half the size of Central Park, it felt so much bigger. So many beautiful secret, labyrinthian spots to get lost in for hours. The perfect place for a bike ride and picnic.

Bun Vibes Take 2 at the Crystal Palace, a magical place once inhabited by Filipino wildlife and greenery. Now void of beings, but full of light.

Blowing off maps for a quick snap atop a double-decker Madrid tour bus. So. Much. Sun. Hailed the bus driver to stop when I spotted a Dunkin Donuts where I could get iced coffee with creme. Europe it seems does not believe in coffee with creme so I indulged whenever possible.

The night train from Madrid to Lisbon. Future travelers – avoid unless you plan enough in advance to book a private sleeper, or bring enough wine to drink the trek away. The train ran out of beverages 2 hours after embarking. Attempting to avoid the sardine-can packed cabins, we ran around the train and jumped off whenever it stopped for a moment to fill our lungs with fresh air.

4:30 AM break somewhere in the middle of Spain to swap out the train’s locomotive. Boxcar Children vibes all night.

Retiro is SO lovely! I wished I had rented one of the bikes that are available around town to take a ride in Retiro – it is huge. I recommend doing that, and packing a picnic for sunset. Such a lovely place. Also if you have time, go to the Prado Museum. Also gorgeous. Have so much fun! I look forward to seeing a post on your blog once you return 🙂
